GRC Annual Meeting Workshops:
Geophysical Techniques in Geothermal Exploration
In recent years, geophysical investigations have become an
essential tool in the assessment and exploration of geothermal
resources. Advances in technique development and data
interpretation have greatly improved our ability to visualize
the subsurface, locate drilling targets, and evaluate the first
wells. This 2-day, pre-meeting workshop will bring together
experts from the geothermal industry and major research
institutions. Topics will include geologic exploration models;
the application and interpretation of thermal, electrical (MT,
TDEM, DC resistivity), seismic (active and passive), and
gravity methods; and image logging and interpretation of
FMS, FMI, and acoustic televiewer logs. Emphasis will be
placed on developing an understanding of how, when, and
where to best use each technique. Click here for more information
Land, Lease, and Utilization Legal Issues
Workshop presenters from private industry, law firms, and
the BLM will provide expertise from various perspectives.
The basics of private, state, and federal leasing will be
covered, as well as requirements for unitization of federal
lands. Legal issues that arise in leasing and court cases that
impact the leasing process will be discussed. This GRC
workshop will be followed on Saturday afternoon by a BLM
presentation from 1:00 to 5:00 on the new EPAct 2005 leasing
procedures and the Programmatic EIS. Click here for more information
GRC Educational Workshops
The GRC develops and convenes special meetings, workshops, conferences,
courses, and symposia on a full range of subjects pertaining to
geothermal exploration, development, and utilization. Specific topics
have included:
Drilling, Economics, Environmental Aspects, Financing, Geochemistry,
Geology, Geophysics, Heat Pumps, Legal Aspects, Management, Non-Electric
Uses and Reservoir Engineering.
The GRC also periodically schedules a basic Introductory Course on Geothermal Energy.
