GRC 2011 Annual Meeting PowerPoint Presentations
An Introduction To Geothermal Exploration
Please Note: If you have an older version of Microsoft Office installed on your PC, you can't open the newer PowerPoint .pptx format, used in some of the files below, without some help.
What you need is the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2007 File Formats. Designed for use with Office 2000, XP, and 2003, the downloadable add-on allows you to open, edit, and save the newer file formats. Just make sure that your copy of Office is equipped with all of the latest updates from Microsoft before you install the Compatibility Pack.
Geothermal exploration integrates a variety of geologic, geochemical and geophysical methods. This two day preconference workshop provided attendees with an understanding of the latest techniques and how they are used to locate and characterize geothermal systems.
Topics included an overview of the exploration process and of geologic resource types, the geochemistry of geothermal fluids (fluid types, sampling methods and geothermometry), the applications of geophysics to exploration, hydrothermal alteration and its significance, induced seismicity and seismic monitoring and introductions to drilling, power plants and direct use applications, and case histories.
