GRC 2008 Conference Field Trips:

Field Trip #1 - Saturday-Sunday, October 4-5
The Volcanic and Geothermal History of Mount Lassen

This two-day Field Trip will leave Peppermill Hotel Foyer at 6:30 am on Saturday October 4, following a continental breakfast. The tour will follow the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada passing the Sierra Valley and Honey Lake thermal areas and will highlight the regional volcanic history, the evolution of the Cascades volcanic arc, the Lassen eruptive complex and the development of the active Lassen geothermal system.

Field Trip stops will include Bumpass Hell, the Devastated Area affected by the 1915 eruption and the young volcanic features of Chaos Crags. The trip will be led by Pat Muffler of the USGS (Emeritus) who has worked in the Lassen area for more than 30 years and was the head of the Geological Survey's Geothermal Energy and Volcanic Hazards programs for nearly two decades.

The cost of this field trip includes: Hotel Room - Double Occupancy with 2 Queen beds (2 people per room), continental breakfast and boxed lunches for Saturday and Sunday. Participants will be on their own for Saturday night dinner at a variety of restaurants near the hotel. Participants will receive a field trip guidebook with technical information about the Lassen region. Follwing an overnight stay in Chester the bus will return to the Peppermill by 9:00 pm on Sunday. Sign up early we are limited to 40 people!
The price of this Field Trip is $280 per person.

Field Trip #2 Saturday - October 4
Steamboat Hills Geothermal Power Complex

The Field Trip will leave Peppermill Hotel Foyer at 8:00 am, following a continental breakfast. The tour will highlight the general geology of the Truckee Meadows, many of the local thermal areas and development of the Steamboat geothermal system. Field Trip stops will include new production wells and the recently dedicated Galena II and III binary generation facilities within the field. Knowledgeable field trip guides will provide interpretive commentary during the trip. The buses will return to the Peppermill by 1:00 pm.
The price of this Field Trip is $35 per person

Field Trip #3 - Sunday, October 5, 2008
David Walley's Resort and Spa - Day at the Spa!

This one day field trip will leave the Peppermill Hotel Foyer at 9:00am, following a continental breakfast in the hotel and return at approximately 5:00pm on Sunday. Join us for a day of soaking and lunch in the Gazebo on this lush Nevada paradise at David Walley's Resort and Spa. Located in the quiet, quaint town of Genoa, Nevada in the foothills of the Sierras. Sign up early, we are limited to 30 participants.
The price for the field trip is $45 per person.
